According to the tightening method, a Clutch screwdriver can come with two mechanisms. One is shut-off type clutch screwdriver in this screwdriver shut-off mechanism available so the screwdriver is completely off after the set torque is reached. In full automatic shut-off screwdriver no damage found in the joint because when torque is reached it automatically off, that’s why the shut-off screwdriver is also known as automatic shut-off screwdriver.


The second screwdriver mechanism is a non-shut-off screwdriver, also known as a slip clutch screwdriver; this screwdriver is aliped once the torque is reached until the operator release the start switch of the screwdriver. If this screwdriver is used a long time during the tightening it may damage the joint, screw of the application.

How to select which screwdriver is suited for your application –

Before selecting the screwdriver, first of all, you should know the application, if it is a critical joint like any PCB, Motor, steering, etc., then you need shut-off screwdriver because automatic shut-off screwdrivers assure no damage in the joint and also provided confirmation for tightening. Common uses of full automatic shut off clutch screwdriver are assembly fastening applications that require precision, repeatable accuracy, and torque control.


If you just need tightening in normal type joint where torque repeatability is not important and fewer chances for damaged and also no torque accuracy issue, so you can use a non-shut-off screwdriver in these joints like panel, switches, etc. You can get better tightening speed in a non-shut-off screwdriver as compared to a shut-off screwdriver.


Torque accuracy and confirmation of torque are one of the important factors to select the screwdriver if you need ±3% accuracy with torque confirmation you have to select the auto shut-off screwdriver. But you haven’t concerned for accuracy or confirmation, you just need tightening with the good speed you can select non-shut-off screwdriver.
